Stop Alcohol Impared Driving
ONLINE COURSE
SAID
(Stop Alcohol Impaired Driving)
A New Zealand-Wide Online Course
The Stop Alcohol Impaired Driving (SAID) Online Course is an educational programme designed to help people better understand alcohol, impaired driving and the decisions that can lead to getting behind the wheel after drinking.
The course is now available online throughout New Zealand, allowing participants to complete the programme from home or another suitable location.
Unlike the locally funded SAID programme, the online course is a paid course, making the programme accessible to people throughout New Zealand.
Have You Ever Wondered Why You Were Over the Limit?
It is easy to look back after an alcohol-related driving incident and simply think, “I shouldn't have driven.”
But understanding why it happened can be far more valuable.
How much had you consumed?
How did alcohol affect your judgement?
Why did driving seem like an acceptable decision at the time?
What could you do differently next time?

The SAID Online Course encourages participants to look beyond the offence itself and develop a better understanding of alcohol, impairment, decision-making and personal risk.
What Will You Learn?
The course explores areas including:
- how alcohol affects the body, brain and driving ability
- understanding alcohol levels and impairment
- recognising situations that increase the risk of drinking and driving
- the consequences of alcohol-impaired driving for the driver, passengers, families and other road users
- identifying personal behaviours and decision-making patterns
- planning practical strategies to avoid drinking and driving in the future.
The emphasis is on education, understanding and making safer choices.

Who Is the Online Course For?
The SAID Online Course may be suitable for people who:
- have been involved in an alcohol-related driving offence
- want to better understand their drinking and driving behaviour
- have been encouraged to undertake alcohol and road-safety education
- cannot easily attend a face-to-face SAID course
- live outside the areas where classroom-based courses are available
- simply want to improve their knowledge and make safer decisions around alcohol and driving.
Because the programme is delivered online, it is available to participants anywhere in New Zealand.
Education Can Help Change What Happens Next
An alcohol-impaired driving incident doesn't affect only the person behind the wheel. The consequences can extend to passengers, families, friends, other road users and the wider community.
Education provides an opportunity to understand what went wrong, recognise the risks and develop strategies that can help prevent the same situation happening again.
Learn. Understand. Make a different choice.
The goal of SAID is simple: safer decisions, safer drivers and safer roads.
